What do I need to do to apply for a boat license?

You must present an official eye test (not older than 2 years) and a valid ID (passport or identity card). Depending on the canton, a recent passport photo may also be required.

How can I apply for a learner's permit?

Fill out the application form for the boat license and submit it together with all required documents (eye test, ID, passport photo) to the navigation authority of your canton of residence. In many cantons you can download the form from the website of the cantonal navigation office or obtain it on site. You can find the contact details of all navigation offices in Switzerland here: www.schifffahrtsaemter.ch/de/

When will I receive the learner's permit?

After submitting your application, you will receive an admission to the theory test. Once you have passed the theory test, you will receive the learner's permit for the respective category.
